Texas Observer: Evolution vs. Creationism

Here's something I did last week for the Texas Observer. It was for piece on Don Mcleroy who's the chairman of the Texas Board of Education and his connection to the creationism versus evolution "debate". It should be out now so if you happen to be in Texas pick one up. It was a little weird going back to doing the cut paper thing, since I've been pretty much exclusively painting as of late, so we'll see where that goes.

Holy Roller

Here's a piece that I did recently for the Texas Observer, they contacted me for something to accompany a book review. The review was for Holy Roller: Growing Up in the Church of Knock Down, Drag Out; Or, How I Quit Loving a Blue-Eyed Jesus by Diane Wilson and recounts her upbringing in the pentecostal church. It was a nice, quick and smooth assignment and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

green deer

something from the sketch book, I've been drawing lots and lots of patterns lately and I think I'm going to start integrating them into my cut paper stuff.

Project Rooftop: ReVamp

My submission for the latest project rooftop, this one was to redesign vampirella. This turned out alright but I wish I would have had a bit more time to work out the design but the last few weeks have been nuts. I admit that I don't really know anything about vampirella but in the course of researching her I tracked down some of the original vampirella comics, they're cheesy, lewd and hilarious and I would absolutely suggest reading them.

Girl and Deer Final

Well here's the final for the sketch from yesterday I'm pretty happy with the way that it turned out and I think I'm going to go ahead and finish designing the postcard tonight/tomorrow so that I can get a mailing out before I head across the pond.

Rollergirl Final

Here's the final of the sketch from earlier, not quite sure about it still may go back to this at a later date.

Day 5 Monkey Running Across the Clouds Final

Here is what came of the sketch from a couple days ago, mostly happy with the way it turned out, don't know if I'm sold on the trees though.

Day 4: Birds in the Clouds

Kind of a light day today because I'm a bit tired, a cd cover for a friend.

day 1 animal spirits

red head, or the angry swimmer

She kind of ended up with a swimmers body, what with the big shoulders and long everything else.

GHOSTS!

So Jillian Tamaki had a pretty cool skim fan art contest the last couple of days. I didn't win but it was fun to try, anyways here's my piece.

Superman Man of Style

so for anyone who isn't aware of project rooftop you should check it out, they do contests of superhero fashion/redesign. There's some great work coming out of there and I finally had time to submit my own. The contest right now is superman, whom I am not a huge fan of but oh well. Anyways here's my submission.

The same old fears

My Texas Wedding

Here's a piece I just did for the Texas Observer about the stresses of Texas Lesbian DIY Counter-Culture Weddings, probably one of the most oddly specific articles that I've ever had to work on.

Battle

did this a month or so ago but finally got around to scanning it cause it's big (18x24), man I need to knock that off and go back to a more reasonable size.

new sketch dump

Some new sketches, hopefully I'll have time to update my site with new works soon and when I do I'll post some of it here.

I've been drawing these tree guys lately, hopefully something will come out of it soon.

This is a sketch for a piece I'm working on for the Giant Robot GR2 Tree's show, hopefully I'll be able to finish/scan/post the final soonish.

And the rest of this is just random stuff from my sketchbook.

three blind mice

Hey folks, hers the piece that I did for the Giant Robot Year of the Rat show, my take on three blind mice. Pretty excited about the show unfortunately it doesn't look like i'll be able to make it to LA for the opening, so if anyone is in LA around the 15 til mid April let me know how to looks.

just playing with some hairstyles

Giant Robot and Tentacles

here it is, the aforementioned giant robot versus giant octopus piece, was a bit of a pain to scan because i'm an idiot and made it like 18x24 so i apologize if the piecing isn't too great.

I'm hoping to keep this a bit more updated this year than last so hopefully more soon.
